Having had to trawl through endless boring and plain ugly web design
sites for my company, I thought I may as well link, review and rate them
to save others the bother. The web sites are listed in no particular
order, other than how I found each on the 'Net.
Just click on the company name to visit their home page.
NUA.
Professional, quality site, with emphasis on big business solutions,
and corporate-styled services. Has good resources for general Internet
interest, such as surveys and news clippings. If you've got the money
to spend, worth a look.
Web Media Ireland.
Attractive, easy to navigate site which clearly sets out the stall for
this company, specialising in small & medium business needs. Web site
design, marketing and hosting starts at only 350 (different
packages available), with many options and choices.
Detailed service explainations help to give a full picture
of this promising-looking company.
Spiders.
Fancy looking pages, but takes an age to load. Not very clear descriptions,
and no price list. They'll get a competent job done, but may seem a bit
of a wildcard choice.
Boom Web Design.
Rediculously overblown pricing (either 2300, or 3200!) for a reasonable,
but not brilliant site. They offer far too little to appeal to a big
company, and are too expensive for anyone else.
AEON.
Strange, dark site, offering little by way of explainations, no price
list, no service details, and loads up very slow. They might be good
in an arty way if they gave a few details.
Quickseed.
Graphics intensive site, but poor layout, and modern
(pretentious) design is offputting. Price list is quite reasonable,
while their client list has been suspiciously "offline" for quite a
while now.
IWSD.
Straightforward design company, looks a reasonable buy, with prices for
a small business a/c starting at 600. Takes a while for the homepage to
load up however.
Web World.
Smart looking site, let down by some poor navigation. Usual range of
services - design, hosting, consulting with reasonable, middle of the road
prices.
Irish Logic Systems.
Limerick-based web design company offering a basic page rate of 450.
Nice layout and attractive site, with plenty of local clients in its
portfolio.
Tarmak Web Design.
Mullingar based design company. A nice looking site, with some good
portfolio examples and reasonable prices; the services include basic
design and domain registration.
Optimum Computers.
As well as selling computer peripherals, this company offers web design
services. The site is littered with JavaScript examples, leaving it a
little too cluttered-looking. It aims to impress, but should tidy its
page up a bit first.
Irish Web Design.
This company offers basic design service (no marketing/hosting), with no
price list, but a short portfolio. Contains fancy graphics but little
substance. Simple, decent layout, but thin on facts, details.
Web Internet Design
Ireland.
Gaudy graphics and sparse details/explainations give an amatuer impression
of this company. Lots of technical jargon, but no price lists or real
information fails to convince.
Webfront.
Amatuer graphics, no price lists and poor layout. This company cannot
expect many clients to want a web site which (if like their own) is
clumsy, ugly and thin on details. Perhaps it's still under construction.
Eirweb.
A new company, based in Dublin, offering web design and hosting. The
web site is nice and straight-forward, if a little dull, while the prices
are reasonable.
National Web Design.
This company, trading under 'PC World' (no, not that one!), offers
web design, but has a complicated homepage, populated by irrelevant links
and doesn't give too much information about its own 'complete Internet
solutions'.
Aardvark Internet Publishing.
This Cork-based firm offer web design services, and have a lengthy client
list. The homepage is nicely designed and competently written. No price
lists are given, but nonetheless a decent page.
Eclipse Internet Services.
This firm offer web design, as well as training, and show it off in an
easy-to-view, attractive page. Gives details of services and price list,
which is affordable, but offers limited content.
Webnet.
Clear and concise homepage gives brief description of web design and
hosting services. The prices are not too bad, but the spiel about what
you'll get is exagerrated, and merely padding about technical terms.
Innovative Marketing Group.
This company offer web design and Internet marketing, with a usual array
of technical jargon and competent design of their own page. Easy to use,
but again, not very deep in detail. Good portfolio list.
Interact Ireland.
Lovely looking web site, aided by profession graphics and good links.
Big client list. This company aims at the high end of the design market,
specialising in increasing exposure through usual marketing techniques.
Definitely worth seeing if you are after top of the range design.
Midnet.
Very odd looking home page. Gives client list upon arrival, but I
couldn't find any details about their services or prices, and gave up
after it took so long to load each page. They claim to write a web page
in just 16 hours. Visit here and you'll see why it doesn't take them
long!
Websoft.
Very nice, professional site, with good layout and navigation. No price
lists, but may have good potential for design. Also offers hosting
services.
Aura.
A rural web design company, offering design, training and advice. There
is a brief client list, and the site is laid out nicely, though details
are sparse. There's no price list for their services either. Still, good
looking site.
Anchor.
Crude-looking site, where they seem to think their 'scanning' services
are quite sophisticated and advanced (!). Other than that, there's a
brief section about web design, while the only prices given are for the
aforementioned scanning, from 6.00 per photo!
Final Frontier Productions.
Standard web design page, with a very strict and detailed price list;
one which is a bit too detailed, and their basic packages start dear,
at 550 for their standard, and even at that, there's too few descriptions
of what is included.
IPAG.
STOP! I was about to warn you about broken links and dodgy design as reasons
not to visit, but perhaps the fact that it hasn't been updated since
January 11th 1996 is a better reason.
Well, that's the lot so far. I'll be adding more if I come accross any.
Please don't bother e-mail me with corrections (unless you know a link is
not working), as I have little time to work on the page.
I may, in time categorise them all, and liven up this dull page, or add
more biased reviews about other companies. Stay linked to find out!
